SUMMARY:History Beneath Our Feet
DESCRIPTION:Sag Harbor was occupied by the British for 7 years during the revolution and they built a fort\, known as a redoubt\, on a hill that happens to be the view from a window the Randy Croxton’s house. Croxton has studied that hill for years with a burning desire to prove\, in fact\, that the fort was there\, and it has been proven. Randy will take you through his journey from hypothesis to conjecture to fact – proving that there truly is history beneath our feet.

SUMMARY:NEW DATE: History of the South Ferry
DESCRIPTION:Captain Cliff Clark will share with us\, the unique\, 200+ year history of the South Ferry\, which travels between North Haven\, on the South Fork and the southern tip of Shelter Island\, and links travelers to Connecticut and New England\, as well as New York and destinations beyond. \nCaptain Clark is part of the fifth generation of the Clark family to run the business. “According the the South Ferry Crew Book\, the company was established sometime during the late 1700s more than likely at the close of the Revolutionary War\, when Samual G. Clark came across the Long Island Sound from Connecticut into Shelter Island.” The “South Ferry designates itself as the oldest family-owned ferry company in the U.S.” dating to 1793\, starting as “a rowboat that would aid boatless travelers to navigate between … [Shelter Island] and what was then known as Hog Neck (now North Haven).” ** \nWith a history well over 200 years in the making\, Captain Clark will have generations of stories to share this Sunday afternoon. Join us\, admission is free. \n  \n**Source: New Wave Media Business Navigator January 2003

SUMMARY:Reinterpretation of the Shingle Style Architecture of the Maycroft Estate
DESCRIPTION:“Occasionally a project will challenge every principle an architect holds dear. Originally built in 1885\, the Maycroft estate in 2004 was neither salvageable nor restorable. Though listed on the National Register\, Maycroft’s historical importance resided in its silhouette on the horizon of Sag Harbor Village: an image engrained in the minds of an entire community. So\, when other architects recommended demolition\, Merrell Soule Architects proposed a different approach\, one that later came to be understood as Reinterpretation. Today\, Maycroft remains on the National Register\, and on the Village horizon\, yet little else of the original remains.” Source: Merrell Soule Architects. \nJoin us at Christ Episcopal Church at the corner of Union Street and Route 114\, for this fascinating presentation by Jim Merrell\, revealing details of the reinterpretation of Maycroft.
