Tyler Mitchell – 2025 Young Scholar

One primary part of the Sag Harbor Historical Museum’s mission is to preserve our village’s history. To that end, we began the process of digitizing the paper-based parts of our collections about 5 years ago with the digitization of the artwork of Annie Cooper Boyd, of which we have over 600 pieces.

This past summer, these efforts continued when Tyler Mitchell joined us for two and a half months. Tyler is a Sag Harbor resident, a graduate of Pierson High School, and he is currently attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute majoring in mathematics. Tyler’s sole responsibility was to start the process of digitizing our extensive letter collection. He began with the Cooper family letters of which he scanned over 10,000 pages of Cooper family history.

This effort is part of our long-term objective to create a robust and secure digital repository which will be accessible for research in the future. The Museum thanks the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation for its support of this effort through its Young Scholar Grant.

Please take a moment and watch the video Tyler made describing his summer months with the Museum. It’s very entertaining.
