Annual Appeal

2025 has been an amazingly rewarding year for all of us at the Museum. With your support and encouragement, we were able to create programs and events that brought Sag Harbor’s history alive for residents & visitors of all ages. Look at all we did:

  • We sponsored a lecture series focused on: “Preservation as a Creative Art”, “Reinterpretation of Shingle Style Architecture” and “Designing a Museum Archive”.
  • Our Exhibits/Collections Committee created a unique and beautiful exhibit centered on wedding dresses, from Victorian fashion to the Roaring ‘20’s (1840-1925), which attracted record numbers of visitors to the museum.
  • Once again, a group of Pierson High School students were our docents for our summer season and were highly praised by museum visitors.
  • The Beebee Headstone Project, begun in the Spring, was completed just weeks ago. These stones had been hit by the Whaler’s Church steeple when it came down during the 1938 hurricane. They now stand tall in the Old Burying Ground.
  • Working again with Pierson students, we conducted a real archaeological dig in our own backyard. Participants learned the proper way to conduct field work, then how to process artifacts that were found, and finally how to identify artifacts.
  • Several museum tours were conducted for elementary school classes.
  • Sundays on the Porch featured the “History of the South Ferry,” The Sag Harbor Express – Past, Present & Future,” and “History Beneath Our Feet” covering the results of ground penetrating radar done in the Old Burying Ground, revealing the remnants of the British Redoubt built when the British occupied Sag Harbor for 8 years during the Revolution.
  • Walking Tours of the Old Burying Ground were conducted each month between June and September.

And now we’re looking forward to our country’s semiquincentennial anniversary next year – the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. It’s going to be an exciting year, and plans are already in the making for some fun and interesting events. We are also publishing a book “Sag Harbor in the Revolution” which will be out in the Spring.

All that we have accomplished this year was due to the tireless efforts of volunteers, trustees, and friends. Your support reinforces their commitment to giving us their valuable, creative time.  Please help us by making a contribution to our Annual Appeal and help to preserve Sag Harbor’s history.
