“Sag Harbor in the Revolution”, is one of the ways the Museum is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Our small village was an important contributor to the patriots’ efforts to become independent, but not all residents wanted to part company with the King.
Have you heard of the Battle of Sag Harbor, the heroic raid on the British fort that still lies beneath our feet in the Old Burying Ground? Or of the mass exodus to Connecticut from Sag Harbor in September 1776, when local residents escaped the British occupation? Or do you know how our village rebuilt its economy after the Revolutionary War? These and many other questions will be answered in “Sag Harbor in the Revolution.”
